"Can my children under 12 join the SCV?"

You bet your brass buttons to Betsy, they can! Male children under the age of 12 can join the SCV as Cadets. Parents or guardians must fill out an SCV Cadet Membership Application & Lineage Work Sheet. Processing a Cadet membership application is done the same way as if he was becoming a member. Cadet Dues are $10.00 annually and sent to the Camp Adjutant.

"What if I don't have a Confederate ancestor but I still am interested in joining the SCV?"

You can become a Friend of the SCV! Simply fill out a Friend of the SCV membership application.  Dues are only $40.00 and you will receive the Confederate Veteran magazine as well. And the best part is, this type of membership is open to both men and women and comes with its own unique pin!!. Friend of the SCV Dues are initially $45.00, then $35.00 annually and sent to the Camp Adjutant.

Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either lineal or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for membership is 12, but there is no minimum for Cadet membership. Applicants should submit an application form, along with a detailed genealogy describing their relationship to the veteran, and proof of his service.
To obtain proof of his service, contact the archives of the state from which the soldier fought and obtain a copy of the veteran’s military service record. All Southern state archives have microfilm records of the soldiers who fought from that state, and a copy of the information can be obtained for a nominal fee. In addition, the former Confederate states awarded pensions to veterans and their widows. All of these records contain a wealth of information that can be used to document military service.

Please note that finding someone listed in the Broadfoot Roster with the same name as your ancestor does not constitute proof (John Jones from Tennessee). You must use accepted standards of genealogical research to demonstrate that the two men are, in fact, the same.

"Is there a Confederate organization that the ladies of my family can join?"

There are two in the State of Texas! Both are individually separate and are autonomous from the Sons of Confederate Veterans, but support our shared cause to protect our Confederate heritage; each in their own way and has their own types of membership and dues rate.

"HOW DO I JOIN THE SCV?"

Step 1: Getting the Paperwork Started and drop in on one of our Monthly Camp Meetings!
We appreciate and are excited that you are interested in the Sons of Confederate Veterans! But like any heritage/genealogical organization, we're going to need some information from you; if you need assistance in establishing your Confederate ancestry, we have a network of genealogists that can assist you. Once our Genealogist finds your Confederate ancestor(s), you'll get a formal invitation to join the SCV! But...if we can't find your Confederate ancestor(s), don't be discouraged. You can still join as a Friends of the SCV until we find you an ancestor.
