EDUCATION
Our members of SCV Hood's Texas Brigade, Camp 153 believe in a strong passion for education and teaching, not just to the general public of our Confederate heritage & history, but to the youth as well. Our camp works with several local schools, school districts, and the JROTC Cadet program in historical and living history programs and the Sons of Confederate Veterans JROTC Scholastic Awards in and around the greater Bexar County area.
As part of our living history education program, our camp, and its membership have collectively a traveling exhibition of collected period-correct firearms, bladed weapons, period-correct attire (not costumes), uniforms, ammunition, items, flags, a canvas wall tent, and historical facts that a Confederate Soldier from the Army of Trans-Mississippi would have. These items are museum-quality replicas and reproductions. We have a number of appropriate programs and topics available for your classrooms or field days.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans JROTC Awards program is dedicated to recognizing Cadets - who in the judgment of that school’s senior JROTC / ROTC advisor - best emulate the leadership principles, moral character, and dedication to duty that were so superbly personified by General Robert E. Lee. Including recognizing deserving Junior ROTC cadets who have demonstrated the qualities of Honor, Courage, and Commitment to his or her unit throughout the school year. Members of our camp are very proud and humbled to present our heritage organization awards to the future leaders and officers of our county's armed forces.
If your school is interested in either of our education program or the JROTC Awards program, please contact our Camp Commander: Raymond B. Reeves.
